Metal beds production on the way

Agapis Heria members Konstantinos and Marilena Maragkou are in Uganda, observing the production of metal beds commissioned by Agapis Heria Group.

Agapis Heria group has contributed the amount of 10.000 to replace a number of wooden beds in the school dormitories that are supported by the Group.

The Group decided to commission the construction of metal beds to local craftsmen, rather than to import beds from abroad, in line to its general scope of empowering the local community, rather than sending ready-made products and goods that foster dependence to charity.

Following a deadly fire at a boarding school in Uganda that killed ten children in November 2018, the Ugandan government issued a directive which calls all schools dormitories of the country to change their wooden beds to metal ones.

The five schools that are supported by Agapis Heria in Uganda host 620 pupils in their dormitories. The total cost to replace 310 wooden double deck beds is 21.000 euro.
